What's JC

In 1949, aiming to realize bright and affluent society, voluntary youths with the sense of responsibility as a leader of the next generation, and passion to improve together through friendly rivalry, got together and founded Tokyo Junior Chamber of Commerce (With the establishment of Chamber of Commerce Law, changed the name to Junior Chamber). And thus, JC movement started in Japan. The idea, which is to contribute to society improving together through friendly rivalry, spread throughout Japan rapidly, and Junior Chambers were established one after another in many places in Japan. In 1951, Japan Junior Chamber (Abbr.: Japan JC) was founded as a national administrative structure in charge of general affairs.

What's JCI Japan

Immediately after the World War II,
the state of Japanese society was extremely devastated mentally and materially. Gradually, more and more voices urged the creation of new social order by having the situation under control. At that time, movement to create a group arose among youths, who were playing active roles in the economic world.

The purpose of the group was to establish the foundation as leaders in each field in Japan. And by improving together through friendly rivalry, the group aimed to steadily realize "better society" burning youthful passion. With the hands of youths, who got together under these purposes, Tokyo Junior Chamber of Commerce (With the establishment of Chamber of Commerce Law, changed the name to Junior Chamber) was founded on September 3, 1949. It was the herald of Junior Chamber in Japan.

This idealistic movement gained the deep sympathy of young leaders all over Japan, and one after another, Junior Chambers were born in Osaka, Nagoya, Maebashi, Hiroshima, Okayama, etc. For contact among these Junior Chambers, "National Junior Chamber Social Gathering" was held in 1950. And then, Junior Chambers from 7 cities were newly enrolled on February 9, 1951, and Japan Junior Chamber Inc. was established as a national integration, and was licensed by the Minister of International Trade and Industry.

Furthermore, in The 6th World Conference of Junior Chamber International held in Montreal in Canada in 1951, Japan JC was admitted to the JCI. Also, in 1970, Mr. Hiroshi Maeda was elected as president of JCI for the first time from Japan JC, and in 1981, Mr. Genichi Nagao was elected, and played an active role.
Japan JC has experienced rapid expansion during the past 55 years since its foundation. At present, there are 720 local Junior Chambers in Japan (Local OrganizationMembers: Abbr. LOM), and the number of its individual members has reached 40,000 people.
